"AMA" With GoCentral Team on "How to Build Your Website"

Please join the GoDaddy GoCentral team for a chat on Tuesday, February 14th from 11AM-12PM PST. You'll have the opportunity to meet some of our team and ask them questions about our new GoCentral website building product.

    Here's how it'll work:

    1. This post in the Community will be opened for questions in advance starting on Monday, February 13th.

    2. You can join the team for one hour as they address questions from the Community.

    3. After the AMA is finished, this post will be closed to additional questions.

    4. If you can't join the AMA, no problem. You'll be able to read all of the questions and answers that were posted after the session is over.

How can more flexibility be built into the website builder beyond its current capabilities?  I realize WordPress is integration capable for GoDaddy, but can't we make our system more to the WP flexibility?

    2. Re: "AMA" With GoCentral Team on "How to Build Your Website"--Tues, February 14t

Why does GoDaddy keep removing features with each release of Website Builder? In reading the help topics, it appears that a script builder was available in the previous version of Website Builder, but is now absent. I need this functionality for my business's site, as we have to provide a disclosure when users are exiting via a 3rd party link and a javascript popup would be the most efficient way to do this. Please restore this functionality.

Additionally, it seems you make WB less and less user friendly. If you modify a theme (for example remove a header or footer object) it's difficult to add it back. The whole point of using WB over hosting with Linux is user friendliness. I would prefer to host and build my own site, but I need the ability to have someone take over in my absence and no one else here has the knowledge I do.

    3. Re: "AMA" With GoCentral Team on "How to Build Your Website"--Tues, February 14t

I'm hosting a website in CPANEL with Wordpress and we are using Gravity Form so that people can send their resumes to us.

The problem is that we cannot receive an email with the form filled and attachements sent. (We just get the form filled out in WordPress and have to check there everytime.)

I've tried SMTP Mailer , Easy WP SMTP, WP-Mail-SMTP so that we can get it in our personnal email mailbox but nothing is going on. Apparently it's GoDaddy server who's blocking it or something.

How can I unable it so that we can get emails with attachements when people are filling out the form?

    Thanks

    4. Re: "AMA" With GoCentral Team on "How to Build Your Website"--Tues, February 14t

Guess I'm in the dark. This is first I'm hearing (or aware of) regarding GoCentral. I am confused... is this going to replace my current Business Website Builder? Or is it an additional product independent of current website builder? If it is going to replace, is there documentation available which explains in more detail what features and/or functionality will change?

    5. Re: "AMA" With GoCentral Team on "How to Build Your Website"--Tues, February 14t

    5. Let me start by saying I love the ease with which I was able to create my website with Website Builder. I like how it is responsive to views on mobile devices ... except one area, tables. My site is non-commercial, I don't sell anything. It is a resource site for a senior softball league. I have a number of tables with game schedules and results and league standings. When these are viewed on my iPhone 6+ a number of the table columns are not visible.

    Example: http://www.mauiseniorsoftball.com/2017-standings-schedule.html

One other issue that I found a work around for:

I have a page where I display a picture of each team and below it, again in a series of tables, I list the names and then the teams current roster. I had a problem getting the image to anchor where I wanted it to be displayed. The work around I found was to upload the image to my business site, where I have ftp access and then insert the reference to the image in a table cell using the <img src=.... > tag. This works but it would be nice to be able to reference a folder on the Website Builder site.

    Example: http://www.mauiseniorsoftball.com/teams.html

In a FireFox browser if you right click on an image on this page and select "View Image Info" you'll see the reference to my business site: www.proteasofhawaii.com/images/ ...(file name of the image).

Tech support suggested I convert over to a WordPress based site so I'm now trying to learn WP!!

    6. Re: "AMA" With GoCentral Team on "How to Build Your Website"--Tues, February 14t

Why do you block copy & paste functions on website builder pages? You can update navigation, settings. I have a problem that makes it difficult to use ctl c , etc. Not been able to get a good answer when I've asked in the past. and It is allowed on all other godaddy pages

    7. Re: "AMA" With GoCentral Team on "How to Build Your Website"--Tues, February 14t

I do not see options to build tables in GoCentral. Can we make it simple enough all these options for user?

my website www.atcguild.com has an MS-Access database.

I have been told it will no longer work as GoDaddy server doesn't support Access anymore and that I have to convert it into MySQL.

How can I safely make my Access Database into MySQL? Will GoDaddy convert it for me?

    Hey @vpbay

Since our team specializes in the development of GoCentral, it probably be best to keep the questions towards that product. We'll have additional AMA events for other product teams in the future.

In the meantime, we have open discussions for our hosting products on both our Managing Hosting and cPanel forums you're welcome to take part in or start a new topic of discussion on. Smiley Happy

    2. How would someone decide whether to go with this product, vs. WordPress (or any other CMS or DIY system)?

What is GoCentral? I have never heard of it until this AMA -- it is a product, a website, or just a marketing brand?

How long will Website Builder be supported and maintained? I recognize it is a product for beginners but how does it compare with Squarespace, Wix and WordPress.com.

    Edited for one more question:

Take a look at the community forum for GoCentral:

    https://ca.godaddy.com/community/GoCentral-Website-Builder/bd-p/GoCentralWebsiteBuilder

Notice in most cases there are 0 or just 1 reply to most questions posed. So I guess I'll ask my final question:

What sort of community are you planning to build around GoCentral?

I noticed the product states "Responsive mobile design".

Does that mean there are themes to choose from and if so, how many?

Is there direct access to CSS files?

What does "Designed for Google" mean exactly?

    Hi,

Many small business owners need a small shopping cart to "get going."  As they get customers and develop marketing skills and tools they often outgrow the WB shopping cart.  Will there be a migration tool to move to another platform, particularly WooCommerce (WP/Automattic).  Moving from WB to a well structured WP business platform should be an easy upgrade.

    Hope this helps,

    @Muse Great questions!

When we mention responsive mobile design with GoCentral, we are referring to the ability to create, manage, and view your website on a mobile device. We are excited about this as it is a first in the industry and allows customers to have a truly mobile experience.

Regarding themes, we have shifted from the old paradigm of choosing from pre-designed templates to start with then customize, to fully dynamic and data-driven layouts, which we call sections, that adapt to your content. Currently, we do not offer the ability to apply custom CSS to your site, but this is something we are keeping a close eye on for sure.

Designed for Google means we have taken every step necessary to ensure each website is ready for Google search engines, as well as offering services which further improve your ranking on Google and other top search engines.

Hope this helps! Thanks for the questions!

Hi @Alex-NewPath, thanks so much for asking this question.

GoCentral is GoDaddy's new integrated DIY site builder with integrated online commerce and digital marketing capabilities built in.  It lets people build a site in under an hour and believe it's easier to use than drag-and-drop focused competitors— we’ve adopted a very different model. we are 1) fully built mobile-first so that people can do the full build or updates on any of their devices, 2) we have integrated web, store, and marketing services that guides people beyond publishing their site…it’s not enough to just post a cool site, you gotta drive traffic and 3) support over 1500 industries and use cases with rich imagery from Getty and content provided.  If you want more third-party references, you can check out https://techcrunch.com/2017/01/25/godaddys-new-site-builder-offers-templates-for-1500-industries/ or http://venturebeat.com/2017/01/25/godaddy-launches-gocentral/ .

Website Builder will still be supported and maintained-- we have no plans to stop supporting it at this point.

We're in the early days on the community side, but do plan on building it out!

    Best,
    Justin

Hi, @tom1940, thank you for your question!  I'm assuming you're referring to our older product, Website Builder (not the new one, GoCentral) -- is that correct?  I am having a hard time replicating your issue, though, as I am able to right-click and copy, cut and paste using only a mouse in our text fields.

Here's a screenshot that shows what I am seeing -- are you not getting the copy/paste menu when you right-click?

In the future, you may want to check out our new GoCentral Website Builder, as we've taken steps to simplify the builder drastically as well as making it completely mobile friendly.

Thanks for the question! The GoCentral Business Plus and Commerce plans come bundled with Get Found so you get all the same benefits as the standalone product. Additionally, those plans come with our Search Engine Visibility product too which helps optimize your site for organic search results.

What marketing services do you have? Is there anything online you can point to that will drive traffic? Clearly this is a huge part of the problem going online -- building a list, and visibility takes hard work. What does GoCentral have to help that?

Hi @akbrunner, appreciate the question you posted.

I'm sorry to hear about your frustrations with the HTML capabilities.  We are investigating this to see how we can enable it while still being friendly for novices.

Separately, we have been focusing the development of this product to be easier to use than the traditional drag-and-drop site builder products especially for the tech novices (we've been running competitive usability studies as well).  Thank you for the feedback on the header/footer removal though, we'll look into how we can improve usability of the editor based on everything we've heard so far.

Re: 13. Re: "AMA" With GoCentral Team on "How to Build Your Website"--Tues, Febr

    Hi @JMPepper

Thanks for the feedback! With the new GoCentral, customers have more flexibility around their site design, in addition to supporting their e-commerce needs.

What we've seen is that once customers start getting sales and growing their business, very few of them decide to ever leave our platform!

There are some instances where merchants may decide they need a new e-commerce platform to sell digital downloads or on multiple channels with inventory management (which we don't support yet, but this has been a small set of customers we've seen).

We’ve dug deeper on this and talked to many merchants around migrating in these particular instances, and we noticed that merchants are hesitant to start fresh again and learn a new platform because it’s time consuming and they like their existing store.

For this reason, we don’t have any plans to support migrating customer over to WP and are working on additional features to continue expanding their e-commerce capabilities on GoCentral.

Thanks for asking this question @Catfish. GoCentral is the new product that was launched recently, but its more than just a website builder. It’s a suite that includes Website Builder, Online Store, SEO and Email marketing, all integrated into one product.  Features vary depending on the plan you choose and you can see the plan details here: https://www.godaddy.com/websites/website-builder

Just to give you more info, GoCentral is built mobile first and it’s completely responsive. So you can build your website from desktop, tablet or mobile. Re: 10. Re: "AMA" With GoCentral Team on "How to Build Your Website"--Tues, Febr

Hi @webdiva , thanks for participating and submitting these questions.

    1. How is this different from previous versions of the Website Builder?

With GoCentral we focused on building a product that can help our customers build and update their websites from any device, from desktops to tablets to smartphones. The websites created with GoCentral are mobile ready and work great on all devices.

GoCentral also supports templates for over 1500 industries and uses rich imagery from Getty.  You can try the product for free for a month without entering any payment information.

We also added several new features that were not available on Website Builder v7 like integrated E-commerce, SEO, Social and Email Marketing tools. So it can be a one stop shop for small businesses.

    2. How would someone decide whether to go with this product, vs. WordPress (or any other CMS or DIY system)?

This is a good question, GoCentral is targeted to customers with no technical experience, and that want a tool that is easy to use and still produces beautiful and professional looking websites.

WordPress is targeted at customers that demand a more custom solution and feel more comfortable with coding and managing the Plugins from the WordPress community. If you are just creating a Blog, than WordPress is the a great tool for that.

    3. If someone has a site on the old Builder now, what's the migration path to get the site to this system? Is there a way to import the content, or is this a "must start over" situation?

We are evaluating options for a migration path, but we will continue to support Website Builder v7.

    Thanks,

    Antonio

Re: 1. Re: "AMA" With GoCentral Team on "How to Build Your Website"--Tues, Febru

Hi @MktgPtnrs, thank you for your question. You are correct that GoCentral does not have as much flexibility and integrations as WordPress. The GoCentral product is intended to be a mobile-first, fast and simple way for a small business to get an online presence. After speaking with small business owners we found that instead of spending time moving fields pixel by pixel and adding plug-ins, they would rather get a site up quickly with a guarantee that it will look good on all devices. The idea is that business owners can get back to spending more time on their business. We are constantly adding features to GoCentral and building industry-specific integrations that will help our customers grow their business.  We will also continue to add more flexibility with design, choices and options, and as part of the GoCentral goal we guarantee that the website will always look good, no matter how you design your site.  For our customers that prefer to have more flexibility and control over their website design we encourage them to use our managed WordPress product.

Thank you again for the question, and thank you for being a GoDaddy customer.

Unfortunately, we don't have the ability to enable Adsense in GoCentral right now.  Due to it being a popular request though, we recently started to think about how to get this enabled in the product, though likely not in the next two months.

Hi @akbrunner - this can happen in some browsers / platforms.  In certain circumstances browsers prevent JavaScript from adding information to the copy / paste as a security measure.  However you should always be able to use Ctrl + C/V (or Cmd + C/V on macOs) to perform a copy paste.

First our integrated SEO solution guides our customers on how to optimize their content for better visibility on search engines. Then a Facebook page can be easily created with one simple action. A welcome email campaign can be sent in few clicks.
In addition, an online store owner can automatically recover sales by reminding shoppers who abandoned their cart to complete their purchase.
These are just few examples surfacing the integrated digital marketing capabilities of GoCentral.

    Hope that helps.

But stay tuned on this, there's more to come, we're working on cool digital marketing stuff.
