how to change permissions to access Root Directory?

I need to upload a file to the root directory to prove ownership of the site - but I get the following error when I try to access through FileZilla

    Error: Directory /root: permission denied
Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing

    Help! PLease!

On MWP, you don't have access to the root folder as it's a shared server.

You should be able to FTP into the server and place the file in the public_html folder, which is the root directory for the website itself, and that should suffice.

If it keeps giving you that error, try using the IP address instead of the domain as the hostname in Filezilla.
