CNAME, ANAME or ALIAS support for APEX domain

Hello,

Are there any plans for GoDaddy to support CNAME, ANAME or ALIAS for APEX/ROOT domains?

I want to point the root of my domain to a CDN, but I cannot find a decent solution to do so with GoDaddy. Redirect only works for http, but not for https. Redirecting https would only be possible if there was a way to install a (valid) certificate for my domain, on the GoDaddy redirection service.

I know that CNAME, ANAME or ALIAS records for APEX domains can have an impact on website performance (see https://bunnycdn.com/blog/how-aname-dns-records-affect-cdn-routing/ for a pretty good explanation), but this performance impact can easily be circumvented by setting up an http AND https redirect from mydomain.tld to www.mydomain.tld. When the www.mydomain.tld is a regular CNAME record pointing to the CDN, only the initial request may have poor performance. All subsequent requests would point to my www.mydomain.tld and will have good performance.

Thank you for your consideration!

Kind regards,

Br_nar

GoDaddy Domain Forwarding is simply a 301 redirect.  Your workaround would work if you associate the domain with a hosting account and set up the redirect there.  So the initial request wouldn't be via the CDN, but after the redirect it downloads the site over the CDN.

Another option is there are several services that redirect the apex domain to www, you simply point the domain to their IP address and they handle the redirect.  Though I don't have information on the reliability of any of these services.

Re: CNAME, ANAME or ALIAS support for APEX domain

Thank you for your response.

I searched for services that offer redirection, but I could only find nakedssl.com that is able to redirect https sites and has a fixed IP address (required to for the APEX A-record). Although this service is free for a single website, I am required to subscribe as I have multiple domain aliases. I believe their subscription is too expensive, considering the size of the service.

For now I've moved my domains to 'Hurricane Electric Hosted DNS', which is a free service that supports ALIAS records. However, if GoDaddy adds ALIAS support to the DNS service, I would like to migrate my DNS domains back to GoDaddy. For now I don't see any other viable options.

I'm just now migrating my domains to Azure DNS, which has the support I need.

It's a shame GoDaddy doesn't think this is important.
