I foolishly let my domain expire. I also foolishly had the reminder emails go to an account I don't check that often. I noticed the other that it wasn't working and figured out what happened. I went to fix it, but it's too late. It's past the redemption period, so there's no way for me to get the domain back right now. I'm guessing I just have to wait it out and re-register once it's released, which is fine. It's just a personal domain that I mainly use for email forwarding, but it's an inconvenience not having it.
The problem is that the email says it was canceled October 18, with October 29 being the last day of the grace period. I thought after 42 days, it was supposed to be released to the registry, but a whois shows that it's still registered in my name. Do I just need to wait a little longer, or did something go wrong and it's stuck in a pending state? Thanks.

@thoffman What does the status say in the whois? Does it show as "redemption period?" If so, that means that the domain has already went through Godaddy's expired auction process and wasn't won by someone else. To be safe you could also purchase a backorder at Godaddy so that they will attempt to registrar the domain once it drops. Here's the link: https://www.godaddy.com/domains/domain-backorder (Use the link in my signature to drop the price to around $18, this also includes the registration cost). Once the domain goes into "pending delete" status the domain name will be released from the registry 6 days after the last updated date (the day it went into pending delete), domains are release between 2 pm - 3 pm Eastern time on the 6th day.

It's a little confusing. Whois shows status three times. If it's in redemption, I'll just wait it out. It's not a very good domain, so I doubt anybody would take it before I can register it once it's released. The updated date was 11/29, so it's been 30 days. I'll just be a little more patient I guess.
This is from the Whois:
Domain Status: inactive https://icann.org/epp#inactive
Domain Status: pendingDelete https://icann.org/epp#pendingDelete
Domain Status: redemptionPeriod https://icann.org/epp#redemptionPeriod

@thoffman It will more than likely be put into Pending delete status in the next few days. Godaddy has a tool that I use quite often in your domain manager called "backorders and watching", you can place the domain on your watch list and they'll email you once the domain goes into pending delete. It's a really useful tool.

Hi,
My .blog domain has expired - Last month... however I cannot find it in my control panel to renew.
Normally you get a longer period to renew...
any ideas??
Hey there!
It sounds like your domain is likely in the redemption period based on the timeframes you give. You can renew it now, most likely, if you call in and pay the redemption fee. Otherwise, you'll have to wait until it completely releases and attempt to repurchase it.

Hi @mikejdouglass,
Welcome to the Community!
If the domain is still in your account for renewal, you will be able to recover it out of the Expired Domains screen. You may use the instructions here to bring it back to an active status.

Does this mean when its pending delete I can purchase it for $18?

@danerys it means that 6 days after the last "updated" date when its in pending delete status that it will be deleted from the central registry. It can then be registered or "caught" on the "drop" through the various backordering services.
For instance, if a domain name updated into "pending delete" status on 5/22/2019 would be deleted today the 28th. This typically occurs between 1 pm - 3 pm EST.
