Link My Purchased Dotcom URL to my GoDaddy account

I have a new website which is on GoDaddy.

I have purchased a URL/web address from another provider.  (www.samplename.com)

How do I link my dotcom URL to my GoDaddy account/website?

I've tried change the domain servers but nothing works and now I'm totally confused.

Thanks.

Are you using GoCentral?  Here is the article.  Let me know where you're getting stuck or if you're using a different product.

Which service(s) are you going to use with the domain?

The URL I purchased is registered with WHC.ca.

Thanks for your help.  Yes, I've been using GoCentral.  I follow the directions in the link you provided and I end up getting the following error message:

This site can’t be reached

walterthomaslightingconsulting.com’s server IP address could not be found.

  • Try running Windows Network Diagnostics.
DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN

The domain mentioned is resolving a GoCentral website but upon further digging I see there is an extra A record in your DNS.  So when someone tries to access the domain it would randomly select between the right IP address and the wrong IP address.

158.69.152.98 <- Delete the A record for this IP address.

72.167.191.69 <- Keep this one.

Thanks Nate.  So I'll go to the DNS at WHC and change the A Record to read only the 72.167.191.69 IP, correct?  Once I've done that how long will it take before I should see my website at my dotcom URL?

Yes, just delete the A record that points to 158.69.152.98.

Changes to the DNS usually take about an hour or two, but can take up to 48 hours.  As both records are in the DNS it would randomly work for some users and not for others until the update completes.

Thanks Nate.  Appreciate all the help.  I'll keep an eye on this and check it in a few hours.
