I am assuming you mean "POUNDS" for the currency. I just did a lookup and most providers are at a minimum of $29.99/yr for renewals of .shop domains before fees and add-ons.

Adding to what @PL281 said, each TLD (Top-Level Domain EX: .com, .net., .shop, etc.) is owned (typically) by private entities who can set the price for what they want to charge for a domain. The domain registrars, like GoDaddy, don't have control over those prices.

ccTLD (Country Code Top Level Domains) are similar, but they are typically run by governments in some capacity and have further restrictions for use.

The initial price you paid, which was likely much lower, is a typical marketing tactic by offering the TLD at a lower price initially, allowing you to build traffic, and risk losing the traffic on the domain/TLD if you change it. So you pay the larger price. Again, nothing GoDaddy can do about that except not offer the TLDs, which wouldn't be smart for them as a business.
