Help! I'm Having Problems With My Website After SSL Certificate Wasn't Renewed

Hello, ever since I let my SSL certificate expire I’ve had a bunch of issues. For the record, my sports website does not handle any transactions or private information so there's really no need to pay for SSL, other than a bump in search engine rankings. Anyways, now I keep running into errors such as:


1) “Safari cannot open the page because it could not establish a secure connection to the server”


2) “This site can’t provide a secure connection uses an unsupported protocol.



3) “The client and server don't support a common SSL protocol version or cipher suite.”


Has anyone else experienced this?


Also, I noticed on Google that my landing pages/articles are HTTPS and not HTTP. How long does it take to switch from HTTPS to HTTP? On the backend of my website everything shows HTTP, but search engines still show HTTPS.


Any help would be appreciated.

I'm assuming that this site is on Managed WordPress. The Managed WordPress system specifically disabled port 443 when you don't have an SSL certificate installed for both security and performance.


So therefore the links in Google have no way to re-direct from HTTPS to HTTP. You would have to submit a site map to Google with the HTTP to get it to update all the links.


I would recommend however that you renew / install the SSL certificate. I understand that you are not doing transactions / private information, however most of the browsers today (and the search engines) are expecting sites to have SSL - this is why in Chrome it now says "Not Secure" in the address bar for your site - Google has also started to push sites down in the mobile search that do not have HTTPS
