Outlook: Manually set up email

Warning: These instructions are specific to setting up Office 365 email. If you need to manually set up Outlook with Workspace email, please see: Outlook 2013: Manually set up email

Note: These instructions are only applicable to Outlook on a PC.

  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    Click Start menu, select Control Panel
  2. Search for Mail in the top right corner, and click Mail (32-bit).
    Click Mail
  3. Click Show Profiles.
    Click Show Profiles
  4. Click Add.
    Click Add
  5. In Profile Name, enter whatever you want the new profile's name to be, and then click OK.
    Enter Profile Name, click OK
  6. Select Manual setup or additional server types, and then click Next.
    Select Manual setup or additional server types, click Next
  7. Select Microsoft Exchange Server or compatible service, and then click Next.
    Select Microsoft Exchange Server or compatible service, click Next
  8. Complete the following fields:
    Field Enter
    Server Type outlook.office365.com
    User Name Enter your full Office 365 email address.
    Use Cached Exchange Mode This is optional, if you want to keep mail accessible while Outlook is offline.
    Enter Server, User Name
  9. Click More Settings...
  10. Go to the Security tab, and then complete the following fields:
    Field What to do...
    Encrypt data between Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Exchange Deselect this option
    Always prompt for logon credentials Deselect this option
    Logon network security Select Anonymous Authentication

    Warning: If you don't see Anonymous Authentication as an option, you may be using Outlook 2010, without the updated patch. Download and install the patch, and then try setting up your account, again.
    Security: Deselect the options, choose Anonymous Authentication
  11. Go to the Connection tab.
  12. Select Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP, and then click Exchange Proxy Settings...
    Connection: Select the option, click Exchange Proxy Settings
  13. Complete the following fields:
    Field What to do...
    Use this URL to connect to my proxy server for Exchange: Type outlook.office365.com in the field.
    Connect using SSL only Select this option.
    Only connect to proxy servers that have this principal name in their certificate Select this option, and then type msstd:outlook.com
    On fast networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP Select this option.
    On slow networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP Select this option.
    Use this authentication when connecting to my proxy server for Exchange Select Basic Authentication.
    Enter Exchange Proxy Settings
  14. Click OK.
  15. In the Microsoft Exchange window underneath, click OK, again.
  16. In the Add Account window underneath that, click Next.
  17. If you see a Windows Security window, enter your full Office 365 email address and password. Select Remember my credentials, and then click OK.
    Enter email address and password, click OK
  18. Click Finish.
  19. On the Mail window underneath, select one of the following options:
    Option Details
    Prompt for a profile to be used Select this option if you want Outlook to ask you which profile to use, every time it starts.
    Always use this profile Select this option if you just want Outlook to always open with the selected profile. Be sure to select the profile you just created.
    Select profile option, click OK

  20. Click OK.
